welcome

things i hear.

Unlike my other pages, I don't have any music I've actually created. This is unfortunate, because I'd really like to. I don't have instrumental talent, nor do I have a great voice, but I do enjoy electronic music. Over the summer, one of my projects is going to center around learning software so I can start mixing songs and creating some electronica.

What I do have, however, are a few spots I recorded during my stint as a radio intern. Now, the problem with putting me on the radio is that I can't sound excited about anything:

See? Yes, there was a time when my monotone was on the airwaves. But we won't dwell on that. I'd also like to talk a little about my most recent musical interests. As I mentioned, I've been delving into the world of electronica, and there are a few specific artists I'd like to mention.

  • Pretty Lights. One man, Derek, who plays with a drummer during live shows. Pretty Lights has a good thump to it, and it's all very downtempo electronica--good background music. The best thing about Pretty Lights is that he offers all his music for free at his website.
  • Justice. If you haven't heard of Justice in the last year, you've been missing out. With their first album, Cross, the French duo have stormed the electro sphere. Very danceable, with a great collection of remixes as well. Oh, and if you haven't seen their video for "D.A.N.C.E." -- treat yourself.
  • The Bloody Beetroots. A little house, a little dubstep, a little everything that sounds right in the world. Another duo, this time Italian, these guys always do live shows wearing Spiderman or Venom masks. Their music doesn't even need the gimmick. With the whining buzz of tracks like "Warp 1.9" they've carved themselves out a solid place in the pantheon.
