welcome

things i enjoy.

On my internet journey, I've found a few sites I love. This is a short list of those sites and a brief rationale explaining why you should love them too.

  • ZeFrank
Ze Frank is a social networking pioneer with a penchant for building communities. Between a variety of unique side projects and creative flash animations he's gained a dedicated following. His most interesting work is the vlog (the show) that he updated every weekday for a full year. A mix of comedy, new tech concept and inspiration, it's easy to drop back into the archives and get lost for a few hours.
  • depthcore
depthcore is an art collective, or a group of artists who join up to network and collaborate on different pieces. Every few months, depthcore releases a package of art themed around a single word (like "her" or "noir"), and lets artists interpret that theme any way they like. It's a great place to find desktop backgrounds.
  • Slashfood
Slashfood has a slideshow filled with pictures of pancakes. Also, donuts. What more do you require?
  • Brain Harvest
Brain Harvest introduces itself as a collection of "bad-ass speculative fiction," and that's as accurate a label as you'll find. I really got into flash fiction last year and managed to stumble across Brain Harvest. All the submissions they post are written around some pretty cool, unique concepts, and I think the site's a great way to imbibe some of the best flash fiction out there.
  • The Hype Machine
I used to hate remixes; the only ones I'd heard always ruined the original song. Then I discovered The Hype Machine: a database that catalogs the most popular songs across hundreds of music blogs. Enter remix heaven. This is the site I use to keep track of good new music and what people are doing to make it even better.
  • The A.V. Club
Unlike its mother, The Onion, The A.V. Club is a completely serious news site. It provides reviews of all kinds of media, ranging from movies and television to games and comics, and also hosts other cool content, like top-10 lists and guides serving as an introduction to fringe culture. It sometimes serves as a pop culture barometer.

Those sites are just a smattering of those I visit on an almost-daily basis, all good for endless hours of browsing entertainment.
