Reflections

When the Tokugawa Shoganate fell and his work was completed, the manslayer, Battousai, vanished without a trace.  No one heard anything; no one saw anything and it was as if he had disappeared into nothingness.  Years later, however, a wandering samurai finds his way to the Kamiya Dojo.  This wanderer turns out to be the legendary manslayer known as the Battousai.  Seeking a way to atone for his past, he takes on the role of protector for those too weak to protect themselves.  Here at the dojo, he meets and falls in love with Kaoru Kamiya, the master of the dojo.

Reflections tells the story of their love and the obstacles they faced together.  Flashback after flashback, we see the undying, unspoken love between these two people.  Kenshin, is still fighting and using his talents for the government and has left Kaoru for some time to do this job.

Every day she waits patiently for his return.  Their son, Kenji, learns the ways of his father through his father’s teacher.  As he is training, an older Yahiko challenges him to a duel with his father’s blade, the sakubato, or reverse blade sword.  After Yahiko beats Kenji, he tells him his mother is sick and that he should return home.  This sickness is something that she and Kenshin share.
This movie shows us the true depth of a man’s soul and turmoil as he faces his past, finds atonement for it, and finally finds his answers.
