Design Report Continued

Proximity: The modules on the site were left in their own distinctive places with content being put far apart. This was done to create adequate room for each section and not overcrowd any one area.

Content: The content of my webpage is a variety of information pertaining to myself concerning my personal and professional life. I wanted the landing page (or homepage) to be a brief introduction to the site and its purpose. The next page contains my "Resume", as I feel it is a crucial document in understanding my professional achievements. The following page is an "About Me" section that gives the reader a better understanding of who I am and how I got to the place I am currently. The next two pages are "Professional Writing Documents" and "Creative Writing Pieces" both of which contain work that I have completed while at GVSU as an example of the work I am capable of thanks to my education.

The links were created thanks to coding I learned from HTMLDog. Also, the hover feature of these links was done thanks to Listamatic which is a helpful tool for creating any variety of features when it comes to making lists and special features using HTML coding. Most of the links take users to individual webpages that display my work. This way, they have the option of which documents they wish to view, and since they are already on the Internet, all users can have access to documents, as opposed to using Adobe PDF or Microsoft Word capabilities.

After completing the site, I think the most important aspect of this project, for me, was finding an inspiration. There are millions upon billions of websites on the World Wide Web these days, and it was crucial for me to narrow down my ideas to something that was tangible given my capabilities. I was immediately drawn to simplistic designs that were very easy to navigate and maintained a clear visual hierarchy. Some of the sites I drew inspiration from include: 2ndDesign, Hovie, and a CSS Zen Garden Sample. Each of these sites were simple, sophisticated, and at times even elegant; so, they really helped me further my ideas and inspirations, lending a nice compliment to my flower image.

I must say, after completing my very first personal website from scratch, I have learned a lot of valuable information and am proud with the results. I feel as though the concepts I have learned will help me in my career ambitions as a writer as well as allow me to appreciate a well-developed and well-designed website. I never realized how difficult such a task could be; however, after taking the process of web creation and design step-by-step, I feel as though I have a better grasp on how even amateurs can learn to contribute to the World Wide Web.
