my garden

tulips in spring
petunias and roses all summer
mexican sunflowers in fall

working the soil
like working my soul

the weeds with deeper roots
are harder to remove
but if I don't get the roots
the weeds return

some weeds impersonate flowers
avoiding the hoe

the weeds i pull right away
are easier to clear out
when they crop back up

the more weeds i dispose of
the more beautiful my garden
the more beautiful my life
