I
run my own home server from an old computer. It runs Windows Server
2008 and is tasked as a DHCP, DNS, and Print Server. It also manages my
domain (cave.net) and user accounts for other domain members. It
connects to a router which acts as a switch and as a backup incase the
server ever goes down. |

OldFaithful 2.0
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Old Faithful was originally a supped up Dell Inspiron 564 Desktop tower that I ordered. Gradually, I started replacing parts in it for higher power parts. After about 2 years, the expansions were becoming too big for the Dell case, and the motherboard and processor were at their limits as far as upgrades. So, after hours of research and even longer saving up money, I bought all new parts and built Old Faithful 2.0. |

I
started off with one bulky 13" CRT HP Pavilion monitor. It was just
something that we had sitting around, and I had nothing else to use. I
wanted HD, I didn't want to waste my HD graphics card. So the next
thing I did was to save up for a new monitor. My desk at the time had a
hutch over it, and that restricted the size I could get. I ended up
getting a single Dell STB2010B Widescreen Monitor with full 1080p HD capabilties and HDMI output. For about a year I loved my single monitor, but it got to the point when one was not enough. With extra money that I had, I quickly bought another Dell STB2010B to add to my system. Dual monitors! I was very happy with them. For another 2 years, I had the two monitors, and had found them very useful. They were great for writing research papers. I could have research open on one, and the paper open on the other. They also made my desktop cleaner. Anything that was not necessary would go on the second monitor, while the first priority would be on the first. But as before...2 was not enough anymore. So after about 2 years of dual monitors, I began searching for a third. I wanted another of the same Dell monitor, since I had had very good luck with both of mine, and they were some of the only HD 20 inch monitors. I did find one...only one. It was priced higher than what I had originally bought them for over 2 years ago! I decided against it, and went with an Acer S201HL of the same size (20"), though it is not HD. The purpose of having 3 monitors was to do Eyefinity. Eyefinity is a feature of ATI graphics cards that stretches compatible games across multiple screens for a surround-vision experience. It's awesome. For those who haven't done it...do it now. |
