At
Grand Valley State University, you
may see a guy riding a unicycle around campus, and that guy is me. I
have been riding my unicycle for four years now. My friend found an old
unicycle in his garage and decided to figure out how to ride it. Once
he learned, he obtained a new unicycle, which allowed me to borrow his
old one. It is hard to say how
long it took me to actually be
proficient at riding, but if I was forced to come up with a time frame,
a couple weeks is probably pretty close. After learning on my friend's
unicycle, I was ready to own my own. I managed to procure an old one
that needed a little fixing up. That one worked for a while and I kept
learning new skills. Some of these new skills included idling, which is
the process of moving back and forth in order to stay in the same
place, riding one footed, going backwards, jumping curbs, and some
different mounts. Not content to only be riding my little baby
unicycle, I bought a new one. This new unicycle is five feet tall, and
is what I am referring to if I talk about my giraffe. This past year
for my birthday, I was given my current unicycle as a gift. It quickly
became my favorite of the three, and is the only one I ride now. If you
have any questions for me about anything related to unicycles, feel
free to talk to me, or send me an email at
5footunicycle@gmail.com.
