Presents

The 8th Annunal Conference on the Americas
The Next Generation

An Academic Conference for the Whole Community

8:00a.m.-6:00p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2005
Eberhard Center, Grand Rapids, MI

The 8th Conference on the Americas features two keynote speakers: Dr. David Sánchez Juliao, (an expert on popular culture and media from Colombia) and Dr. Emilio A. García-Méndez (from Argentina). Dr.García-Méndez will address international law regarding youth living on the streets. The conference theme, “The Next Generation,” will address change and the future of today's youth. As we look to the Americas, the next generation will encounter a radically changed world, and will find themselves at the forefront, needing to interpret, guide, and change their life experiences.

This conference addresses the many kinds of changes - past and present – that create the realities faced by today's youth and beyond. The next generation is as much about the future, as bringing heritage and history are to the present. Connections between change on a local and global scale, be them political, economic, environmental, or cultural, will be addressed. The Conference on the Americas brings new insights and findings together as we open discussions on national, regional and local development initiatives.
