Introduction

When confronted with an oppressive occupying force the natural tendency of people is to resist.  However, resistance is much harder than it first seems, resistance groups need constant support. You are a member of a top-secret commission hand picked by President Roosevelt to study the options available.  No one is to know about the work you are doing, for fear of tipping off the Nazi’s to the plan or starting a public outcry.  You have information available from the future, how the information got to you is top secret, but use it to make your decision, can you change history? Study the options available and prepare a report for the President.

Task: Can you change History?

Investigate the sources available to you, study the pro’s and con’s of each issue, and determine the best course of action.  Some of your information is from the future, don’t ask where it came from, use it to make your recommendation. Study the different resistance groups that existed and determine the best way to aid the countries you are responsible for.

  • OSS agents Consider:

v     How the groups are aligned politically

v     The location of the groups compared to the headquarters in London or the United States

v     The leadership of the groups, groups with overly strong leaders won’t take direction, and groups with poor leaders will be to weak to be of any good

v     The level of power the Nazi’s  or Japanese have over the local population, the goal is to prevent more civilian casualties than necessary not to cause severe reprisals where many more would die.

v     Also consider the resistance to the Holocaust by the Jews.  Use this information for the countries that the Jewish concentration camps were (ie Poland, Holland, Germany, Italy, Russia, etc)

  • Liaison- study at one to two of the sites for each of the OSS agents, come to a general conclusion about possible plan of on aiding resistance groups.  Realize the information from the future gives all of you an advantage, use that to see who needs help, who to help, and give ideas on how you want to do it.  Yours is the opinion that will be presented last to the president.  So you can take into consideration the recommendations of your agents, or you can make your own choice, that is up to you.

When you have done your research compile your recommendations into a report for the President.
