8 simple steps to image mapping

1 open starmap.html from ryan or sarah’s homepage. this star will serve as the entire navigational system for the site. you will be creating your own personal image map using this star.

2 click on the image so that it is selected and go to the ‘map’ button. here you will type ‘navbar’ because the star will be your navigational toolbar.

3 click the ‘rectangular hotspot’ tool and drag a rectangle around ‘gvsu.’ by doing this you are beginning to create a link. release the mouse button, but with ‘gvsu’ still selected. this will change the options in your ‘property inspector.’

4 use the ‘point to file’ tool to assist you in linking to the next page. after highlighting ‘gvsu’ click on the file of which you are attaching it to (the gvsu link) from your folders in the right hand column.

5 (OPTIONAL) with that image still selected, type ‘gvsu’ in the ‘alt’ field under ‘property inspector’ and press the ‘enter’ key.

6 repeat steps 3-5 using the rest of the points on the stars to make various links to your email, the wrt351 page, entry 1, and the dreamweaver quiz until all five points of the star are linked.

7 press ‘F12’ or click on the globe to view in explorer.

8 save and close the file.
