This integrase is a vital enzyme in the viral life cycle. It enables the viral DNA to insert itself into the host cell chromosome. The major chain is colored blue with the minor chain colored green.

This is a a double strand of viral DNA which the integrase is integrating into the host cell chromosome.

This element was a cofactor in inhibiting the PFV intasome from functioning properly. It bonds with the Oxygen groups of the ligand in order to occupy the active site of the integrase.

This molecule is a logically designed integrase inhibitor. It blocks the critical step of integration of viral DNA into host chromosomal DNA. The brand name is Isentress, which is produced by Merck. It is the first in a new class of antiretroviral drugs designed to combat HIV.
