About Alternative Breaks

OUR MISSION:
Alternative Breaks strives to develop growth and understanding through reflective, hands-on service learning projects, focusing on a variety of social issues throughout the nation during school breaks.

OUR PROGRAM:
Alternative Breaks (AB) offers students the opportunity to spend a weekend, winter break, or spring break volunteering, learning about societal issues, and meeting new people. AB strives to make each trip diverse by placing people from similar backgrounds and organizations on different trips. This allows everyone to learn for other members of their group. AB welcomes people of all faiths and beliefs, but is not tied to any religious organization. All AB trips are alcohol and drug free, which allows for a more memorable and productive trip. Alternative Breaks is also a great way to gain leadership experience. Past participants can become site-leaders for the following year.

OUR PARTICIPANT EXPECTATIONS:
AB expects full attendance to all scheduled events and meetings, commitment to the drug and alcohol policy, abidance by the AB constitution, and most importantly, that as a participant you remain flexible, open-minded, and responsible.
