The Orange Album

This design was inspired by and a culmination of ideas from CSS Zen Garden and Open Source Web Design. The purpose of the design was to showcase the things I am interested in while still maintaining a professional appearance. The title of this site, "The Orange Album" is my spoof of "The White Album" (a record from the Beatles and a book by Joan Didion). This has dual meanings, since this is an album showcasing my work, but the content is also representive of my career so it is similar to a book or record. This decision was factored in by using a simple design but adding personality with unique pictures (all of which are courtesy of stock.xchng). Each picture conveys a different message and theme, while the entire site has the same layout and sidebar. Each page is given a sense of individuality on the site with the pictures, and a different message depending on the content and photography.

Content & Organization

A lot of time was spent carefully choosing work for this site that would best showcase my abilities. To be marketable the site needed to have various areas covered, from creative writing to web design. Not all of my work was needed, but enough to show that I am competent in more than one area of writing. The homepage is very simple, gives a short introduction to what the site's purpose is, and has a very calming purple theme with a picture of a flower. The professional writing page is the first listed (after the homepage) since it showcases a very broad range of writing samples and is what will help in the job market most. This page contains a various range of writing topics - analyses, research papers and critical responses. Most of the papers included are ones that explain a lot about my career and opinions. The creative writing page contains less content than the professional writing page, but shares more personal information. More work will be added to this section later, but creative work is always in the revising process. This page has a blue color scheme, and a very entertaining photograph that shares the idea of creativity. Next Page
