Assignments

Professor Royer,

When reviewing my website at the end of the semester, every single page will need re-evaluation. Every project we have worked on has undergone a complete re-design. If you remember, in the beginning of the semester, my entire website consisted of plain white pages with blue headings; I hadn't used any text-images at the time, and you suggested that I should rework the headings using Fireworks to help give the pages a more professional look. I took this suggestion into consideration, and revamped the entire site using different colors and creating text banners for each page.

For Project 5, I completely redesigned my Girl Scouts pages several times in order to make the best use of white space and create an efficient navigation scheme. You had suggested that my original design was "a little too green," so I toned it down a bit by removing the green background and instead inserting some transparent images of the Girl Scout logo. My original animated gif file on the front door page for the Girl Scouts site had been somewhat blurry and unprofessional, so I reworked the images to make sure they were higher quality and included some of the newer pictures that the Girl Scout leaders had provided us later in the semester.

For each major project, I practiced using templates and CSS styles. My Writing 351 front door page and all of the subsequent writing assignment and project pages were created using a template, as were each of the individual Girl Scout pages.

In order for my website to remain useful after the completion of this course, I made the front door page more personalized by including links to non-writing351 related sites I use regularly. Using some of the links I found during the process of Project 1, I taught myself to use the image mapping tools in Fireworks in order to create the front door page.

I have had a strong interest in webdesign long before I enrolled in this class. After graduation in the spring, I have been planning to enroll in the Web Design certificate program at GRCC. Hopefully the process of creating these websites will prove to be helpful throughout that process, and will possibly provide me with material to include in any web portfolios I may need when applying for jobs in the future. I have enjoyed this course, and appreciate all the new tricks you have taught me that I was not aware of in the past. Thanks for a productive semester!
