About Me

I am a double major in public relations and professional writing. Within my majors, I have had the opportunity to study Web design, document design, advertising, and creative writing. This knowledge gives me the ability to understand communication as a whole. Highlights from my undergraduate work are found on this site.

In the summer of 2006, I was a public relations intern at D.A. Blodgett for Children, an adoption agency where I was the sole public relations employee. The most exciting aspect was when one of my news releases was covered by WXMI Fox 17. Being the only communications worker enabled me to be involved in all aspects of the public relations planning process.

From May to August of 2007, I was the marketing and client relations intern at Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge, a law firm with offices in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Traverse City. I focused on internal communications writing articles for many newsletters to teach attorneys about the importance of marketing themselves. I also wrote an article introducing the company's new Web site in "Legal Ease," a newsletter sent to past and present clients, employees, and others associated with the company. The article "Smith Haughey Launches New Web Site" (PDF) can be found on page five.

Once I graduate in April of 2008, I plan to pursue a career in a corporate or nonprofit setting. My ideal position would combine writing, public relations, and Web and print design; however, I am interested in any position that lets me work in any of these areas.

I currently work as a picture framer at Hobby Lobby in Norton Shores. I enjoy seeing artwork and photographs and helping customers design mat and frame combinations to preserve and display their pieces. Some of the strangest things I have framed include a: cigar, flute, clay pigeon, pool cue, and hair from a dead woman.

For relaxation, I enjoy walking, swimming, and biking. I am an avid reader of everything--newspapers, magazines, and books. I also like to manipulate pictures on Adobe Photoshop and go to art fairs and art galleries.
