Facility Description:
Manufacturing Training has been established at the Grandville Urban Center, a real manufacturing environment where participants are paid while they put their newly acquired skills into action.

General Description of Training:
Our light industrial training includes small assembly, Hi-Lo, warehousing, pallet jack use, inventory control, shipping and receiving, MSDS and bio-hazardous material safety. These are all hands-on, paid work experiences that are supported with classroom-based instruction. Classroom instruction will include training on the principles of lean manufacturing, ISO and employability skills, among others.

Goodwill offers a paid transitional work experience component as part of this training. The rate of pay is $5.15 per hour.

Proposed Length of Course:
The current length of training is determined on an individual basis. The skill development of each individual is assessed and an estimated length of training is initially determined. During the training, Instructor, participant and his/her support staff review the Competency checklist and adjust length of training based on the individualfs competency attainment. Hours of training average 20 hours per week of hands-on paid training.

Where will the participants work?
The participant will work in one of Goodwillfs Industrial Operations sites in downtown Grand Rapids, Grandville or Greenville.

What will they be doing?
The participants will be participating as a member of an assembly team to accomplish a pre-determined rate of production while meeting quality standards.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Exhibit a desire to work
  • Be a current participant in a Goodwill program
  • Participate in the development and execution of his/her vocational plan
Certificate of Completion Criterion:
To complete the training, a minimum of 80% of the designated competencies will be achieved.
