on March 23, 2012. Development began in March 2009 when Lions Gate
Entertainment acquired the rights. The main characters, Jennifer
Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth
Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, and Donald Sutherland were all
casted between March-May 2011. At the time of its release, the film's
opening netcome was the third largest of any movie in North America.

second installment of the Hunger Games was directed by Francis Lawrence
and was released on November 22, 2013. The film set records for the
largest November opening weekend with the largest Thanksgiving
box-office totals, surprassing the first film's box office grosses.
Catching Fire ranks as the highest grossing film of the 2013 box
office, the first 2D film since The Dark Knight(2008) to top the yearly
box office. The film earned over $865 million wordlwide and is the
highest grossing entry within The Hunger Games Trilogy.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1
The
third movie was again directed by Francis Lawrence and was released on
November 21, 2014. The film earned $55 million on opening day, making
it the largest opening of 2014. Opening weekened the film earned $273.8
million, marking The Hunger Games film series as the only franchise to
have three films earn over $100 million in a weekend. Worldwide the
film earned $755 million, making it the second highest-grossing entry
in The Hunger Games series.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2
The
forth and final installment was directed by Francis Lawrence and was
released on November 20, 2015. This movie was the only film widely
released in 3D. This movie had the lowest gross in the franchise,
earning $102.7 million during opening weekend and $653 million
worldwide. The film held number one at the international box office for
