Design Process Report Continued
Box Sizes
After putting the homepage content in, I decided to make the header and top navigation boxes a little smaller. This allows two of my work experience items to fit above the fold, since many users will not scroll down.
Content selection and placement
Because the main purpose of my site is to show my resume to potential employers, I begin presenting it on the homepage. The homepage lists my work experience, since this is the strongest aspect of my resume and therefore the portion I would like visitors to read most. If users do scroll to the bottom of the page, a link brings them to the next resume item. This continues throughout all the resume pages so that one could read through the entire resume like a book, using the links to turn the page. But since many visitors will use navigation to skip around instead of reading in order, a list of navigation links are listed beneath Resume on the left of the screen. These links and the content they lead to follow the genre conventions of a typical resume, however more content is included since space allows.
The top navigation bar displays the links which are not components of the resume, with the exception of Home, which begins the resume. I wanted my contact information to be in a prominent place, since impressing employers becomes useless if they don’t readily have the information to set up an interview. Photo gallery and design report are placed on this navigation bar because they are not items traditionally included on a resume, but specific to a website.
Only a few photos were added to the photo gallery, since the purpose is to give potential employers a glimpse of my personality and appearance.
