Studies
A double major at Grand Valley State University, in both Criminal Justice and Professional Writing, I am extremely passionate about my studies. My CJ degree more accurately represents my desired career path, to become a law enforcement officer, but writing is also prevalent in the field.
In studying criminal justice at GVSU, I have worked at local police departments and federal law enforcement agencies. The career opportunities offered by both are extremely interesting to me. My classes have further spurred my interest in pursuing law enforcement. CJ professors at Grand Valley include former patrol officers, chiefs, secret service agents, and even British MI-6 agents (Professor Bond, James Bond).
Writing has not always been an interest of mine. I originally enrolled at Grand Valley taking finance and economics classes, thinking that I would enter into the business world after college. Math and science were my strengths through high school, but I despised them with a passion. Through some writing I published online the summer before college, I was encouraged to continue writing and study it at the university level. Looking back, the blogging I did during that summer was not my best work, but thankfully it became an inspiration to further my writing skills in college.
