December 7, 2002 -

Starting this journal after we've been running the game for a semester, so there's a lot to catch up on.
Originally, this game was supposed to have a lot more players than the three I've been running for lately.  We lost two within the first couple of months of the semester, which is fine, since their characters weren't really connecting with the group anyhow.  Then again, this game is a lot more than most people bargain for, really.
Invaria: War of Ages, originally, was entitled "The Second Balance War" and was supposed to deal with another drawn-out war between the Black forces under Sean Jistani and the White Forces of Zim.  Not happening quite that way this time around.  This time...well, this time, Kadara Jistani is a touch more important than she originally was, and her foster brother Devin, in the last game session, got a lot more important than I ever intended for him to be.  Funny how that works sometimes.  No...this time, the game is dealing very heavily with the death of the Order/Chaos Balance, with a revival of the old gods, and an invasion from across the sea -- from Aradoc, in fact, a continent with which Invaria, the main continent for my game, has had very little contact over the years.  New races are popping up left and right and things are sure to get very ugly, very quickly.
The party is the chosen of the gods.  They know that now.  After rescuing King Sean Jistani from his ten-year slumber, after encountering the gypsies under Meridian Travell of clan Impere, after realizing that Kadara Jistani, is, indeed, the Fire Eyes of legend, they realize that they're the chosen of the gods.  And they can't deny it.
It's hard to deny it when Merlin and Queen Mab look at you and say, "Sorry, you're it."
And Kadara was kidnapped by the forces from Aradoc, and then rescued again, and told them that there was big trouble going down, but she's unconscious right now, so the party really can't get anything out of her.
Vincent is sleeping with a goddess (Queen Mab) and Sonya got a gift (her familiar, a psuedodragon named Oswalt) from a god (Merlin).  Meridian knows who the gods are by looking at them, and Solveliss...well, he's met his goddess, he just doesn't know it yet.
And now I'm gaining an elven prince.
That's right, Nicholas Diggs will be reprising his role as Aalander Songblade, Crown Prince of Nylan and member of the Order of the Silver Sword.
Yes.  Things are going to get very interesting, very fast.

Well, due to some unfortunate circumstances, I'm losing Matt.  That makes me sad :(  There's naught that can be done for it, so on with the show.  Will probably be adding a few players sometime soon -- just got to figure out when and how et cetera.  Shouldn't be too terribly hard.

So I'm getting a lot more players than I'd originally thought.  I'm picking up John (one of Nick's roomies) and Jennie (the square root of J2).  Looks like John is going to be playing someone of gypsy stock, while Jennie's character remains undetermined -- that's what tomorrow is for.  I'm going to see if I can't get her to play an elf.  I'd like another elf beyond Meridian and Aalander (and Gwyn, but she doesn't count).
John is thinking of playing a cleric, which prompts me to think that I should really probably get down to work on figuring out the domains.  John's character design (a half dragon slowly becoming more dragon over time a la Dragon Disciple) being what it is, if he plays a cleric, it would most likely be a cleric of the goddess Brigid.  Alas...the only domains even partially done thus far are Merlin and Queen Mab, and I've still got to add one each to them.  So I should probably finish those soon.

Well, last night's session went well.  Jennie (Tia) is well and truly traumatized, as is Kadara Jistani (who is finally conscious again).  The party is now on the road to Nylan after some revelations at Castle Mirdreth.
Kadara's seemingly senseless rambling strikes again.
Next session is on January 20, when Balance War alumnus Nick Diggs joins the game, reprising his role as Aalander Songblade, Crown Prince of Nylan.  The party is currently on its way to Nylan to speak with King Caravel Songblade regarding matters -- Ardus Cardalyi, nephew of the king, has drafted a missive based on the words of Kadara, who was held by the drow.
    Things unravel quickly.

January 21, 2003
Ohhhh...things went better tonight than expected.  Aalander has made my life SO much easier.
He reacted surprisingly well to the revelation about Devin.  He really did.
    No one likes Vincent, though.
Added two new people tonight -- Aalander being one (technically he's not new, but that's beside the point) and Jennie's roommate Jill, playing the full-angel sister of Dayala, aunt of Kadara.  It's going to be fun from here on in, I just know it.

Back to Invaria: War of Ages home.
