Introduction
With merengue filled nights and sugary beaches, the Dominican Republic,
otherwise known as La Republica Dominicana is one of the
hottest islands in the Carribbean. Hispanola has the intoxicating
feel of other Carribbean islands like Puerto Rico and Martinique, but in
many ways this island is incomparable. For starters it shares its
shores with Haiti, the only island in the Carribbean to be split into two
countries. Dominicans speak spanish, while Haitains speak mostly
creole. The Dominican boasts their capital, Santo Domingo, which
is the first city built by the europeans in the "new world". The
island's residents range from illiterate farm workers, to multi-millionares
involved with international business and communications. The landscape
consists of hundreds of kilometers of white sand beaches, fertile valleys
that grow tobacco, and rivers that careen from the mountain tops.
This site will give you a little insight on the people, and knowledge not
otherwise known about the Dominican Republic. Enjoy!
