Culture and Religion...

More than 90% of the people in the Dominican Republic are professed Roman Catholics, and Roman Catholicism is the official religion of the island.  In fact, most Dominicans don't attend mass regularly; their popular religious practices are far removed from Roman Catholic Orthodoxy.  They generally ignore the advice of clergy on matters that are not strictly religious on the assumption that priests have little understanding of secular affairs. Dominicans are deeply, deeply religious people, with astrong love for what they believe in, and a strong will for life.

The culture of such strongly, independant people is focused entirely on family, food and friends.  Family is what the poeple live for each day.  Family istheir whole world, unlike in most countries.  To the Dominicans, members of the family have no limititations within their family circle and hold much respect for  their ancestors
Platqanos, mangos, juca, arroz, pollo...the list can go on for the most favored foods in the Dominican.  As in the United States, most events and celebrations revolve not only around the family, but around the food, and all of the delicacies that go with it. With rich spices and herbs only grown on the island, Dominican food is flavored with hot bites that will seduce your tongue.
