Santo Domingo

A city of immense wealth and grinding poverty, where men in suits carry cell phones, and those in rags who eke out a living selling bead necklaces or lottery tickets are equally common sights.  This is a city of Catholics, yet has no shortage of brothels; five star hotels and frequentpower outages; of intense heatand cool clear waters . . .  This is a city unlike any other in the world.
Santo Domingo, like the Dominican spirit is profoundly festive.  This city holds two astounding Carnivals a year.  It has a Merengue Festical and a Latin Music Festival.  After all, this is the land where Merengue originated.  The dance clubs are packed with young latinos, along with the cock fight arenas and the baseball stadiums, and it's scene is as rich as any in the Carribbean.
